While Barney Frank’s HR 2267 is clearing a path toward legalizing online gambling at a federal level, New Jersey is working on a plan to make it work at a state level.

 

 

Since New Jersey already had legalized gambling in the many land based casinos in Atlantic City, the plan is to simply incorporate online gambling into this regulatory framework. While some land based casino owners are pleased with this move, seeing it as a chance to further their reach, others are not convinced. Some see it as a half measure, something that will only make things more

complicated in the long run. What they say they’re really looking for is a nationwide answer to online gambling, rather than building online casinos to conform to New Jersey laws and regulations only to have to change everything around once online casinos are made legal again at a federal level. It will be difficult for any US based company to be competitive with the hugely powerful UK casino industry, including www.jackpotcity.com/uk/, unless they are able to give it everything they’ve got. Some other US states are taking a slightly different approach to the matter. These states have taken an approach similar to that of many Canadian provinces and are setting up state run online casinos as a supplement to their lottery revenue. These obviously lack the benefits of a competitive market, something New Jersey will have, but they are at least something for those who want to play online legally.
